Gaming season, russian wo… eh language

Last year a game called “Fallout 3″ has been released. I’ve been awaiting it with anticipation and wanted to purchase it someday, however my fear of not loving games anymore prevented me from doing so. A comrade from work however lent me his copy about a week ago and i must say, i regret not buying it myself the day it hit store shelves last year. Its one of the very very few games that are made for me. Open world, realistic setting/preferably on other planets or end time scenario with alot of freedom for the player. My all time favourite games belong into such categories like Ultima 9, Outcast, Stalker and now Fallout 3. Plus, i started playing it exactly when the first snow (it was early this year indeed) hit us last week. Perfect timing.

Also, my progress in learning the beautiful russian language is moving along quite well. I am now able to build simple sentences and can write (ok) and read (pretty well) already. I am taking it quite serious since my wife has to understand me afterall.., hehe. Not that i can call a russian beauty “my own” yet, i was mainly kidding. I find it to be a very interesting language i simply enjoy to learn properly. At first i wasnt sure if my lazyness would overcome me someday and i skip the course, but i’ve been an avid participant lately, even trying to arrange my shifts to not miss the courses. It flows pretty well and its all free!! God bless Montanwerke Brixlegg.

Thanks for reading!

GameStar: Operation Flashpoint 2 Preview

The latest issue of german magazine GameStar contained an interesting preview of Operation Flashpoint 2: Dragon Rising.

I summarized the most important facts:

- The game is “feature complete” which means all planned elements are now in the game: interface, graphics, AI, vehicles, weapons, mission design. However all these features are not connected togheter properly yet says GameStar.

- The biggest building site is the AI and the representation of landscapes which suffer from streaming.

- There are hit zones all over the bodies of the soldiers which makes the game very tactical.

- OF2 has two campaigns: You can choose between a marine or a Spec Ops.

- Codemasters only offered 1 PC where the game was running stable. The GameStar team experienced AI failures, sound bugs and re-starts.

- OF 2 will contain 15 missions divided by the two campaigns. Different difficulty levels will attract both experts and new players.

- Multiplayer focus will be on the Co-op mode which was designed for 4 persons. You will also be able to play team deathmatch, attack and defense and area conquest from the beginning.

- GameStar doesn’t think that Codemasters can clean out all issues until the estimated release date which is set for June 21st 2009.

GameStar: Anno 1404 hands-on preview

The latest GameStar had an exclusive hands-on report about the popular Anno-series. (at least very popular in europe)

I’ve written down the most interesting facts for anyone interested:

- Complete overhaul of camera system. Instead of dull over the top view there finally are changing perspectives which makes the in-game graphic films more dynamic.

- There’s a new “needs-system” which makes the settlement-build far more more fastidious and exciting.

- The building sites alone show more activity than the whole map in previous Anno games.

- Near a scaffold GameStar finds a building master who’s in danger. They save him and receive 15,000 points in gold. The developers want to build in such little gimmicks and gags throughout the game to make the game more alive and less mechanic.

- The usability has been improved alot and especially the water looks stunning

- The story is quite interesting and idiom-rich, yet a little plateful.

- The new “currency”: fame is generated by small and big success experiences.

- The strategy card has been completely revamped for the better: comfort lives.

- GameStars final Hands-on potential for the game: “Excellent” which is their top rating for previews.
